There’s a new chapter beginning for the Sunapee Cellar & Pantry family, and this one takes us from Napa Valley all the way to northern Italy.
This fall, our daughter Anda is trading Napa for Pollenzo, Italy, where she’ll be studying food culture at the University of Gastronomic Sciences. Founded by Slow Food, the university takes a wonderfully broad approach to food, exploring not just what we eat, but the culture, people, places, traditions and systems behind it.
For those who have followed some of our previous adventures, you may remember Anda joining Reese on a wine trip through Napa last fall. Now the tables are turning. With Anda living in Italy, Reese & Julie plan to become frequent visitors, all in the name of continuing education, of course. We expect there will be plenty of vineyards, markets, small producers, great meals and more than a few Aperol Spritzes along the way.
We’re calling these adventures Tales from Italy, and we hope to bring some of what we discover back to Sunapee. Italy offers an endless opportunity to learn more about the connection between wine, food, place and culture, and we’re excited to share some of those discoveries with you at SC&P.
One of the first stops on the list is Pasqua Wines in Verona. Pasqua produces a wide range of wines from the Veneto, including Prosecco, Pinot Grigio, Valpolicella and Amarone, along with some decidedly more modern and creative bottlings. Reese is planning a visit to the winery while in Italy in October, and then we’ll bring a little bit of Verona back to Sunapee.
Join us Thursday, October 29, from 4–6 PM for a special Pasqua wine tasting at Sunapee Cellar & Pantry. We’ll share a selection of Pasqua wines, a few stories from the visit and, hopefully, a little taste of what we’ve learned along the way.
And yes, we suspect an Aperol Spritz or two will be enjoyed before then.
Stay tuned for more Tales from Italy.
