SANCERRE BERTRAND VERNAY

Bertrand Vernay – Sancerre

SAUVIGNON BLANC

History – Situated at the South of Sancerre, the peaceful village of Crezancy, the vineyard is located at the feet of the surrounding hillsides. The estate spreches over 28.5 acres of Sauvignon Blanc ( white wines) and 6.2 acres vinified as rose and red wines. Every year is different and depends largely on the climatical conditions, but the thorough maintenance of the vineyard is the beginning of a good vintage. Bertrand Vernay practices a sustainable agriculture. The grass and weeds are letting grow between the row to attract beneficied insect and stave erosion.

Vineyard – The vineyard lays on limestone clays, pebbles and red soil. Vines: 25-30 years old.

Winemaking – Mechanical Harvest. Pressed as soon as the grapes arrive. After a must racking of 12 to 24 hours, the must is placed into a fermentation tank ; Controlled temperatures by thermoregulation during the fermentation.  It permits longer fermentations and gives more intense and delicate aromas. Ageing on fine lees. Bottling at the domain.

Tasting notes – Pale golden hue with citrus aromas and mineral hints. The attack gives way to a rich, round palate.

Food pairing – It’s a perfect match with mussels, scallops, shellfish or as an aperitif. Serve at 45 ° F

PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION OF WINE – The Domaine de Paris rosé wine is produced and blended at a modern winery with a state-of-the-art temperature control system. Production specifications have been developed and established by the House of Bréban, which holds exclusive rights for its distribution worldwide. The vineyard is located in the towns of Gonfaron and Pignans, on the inside edge of the Massif des Maures, and it has been owned by the Brun family since 1900. Soils of the 35-hectare vineyard are made up of clay, limestone, sandy alluvial types of Permian origin. The varietal plantings consist of Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan and Syrah grapes. Its primary growing area is a part of AOP Côtes de Provence, the largest Provencal appellation of wine region. The whole area is under typical Mediterranean climate of Provence, and it covers about 20,000 hectares. The Maures plain is situated halfway between the northern part of the appellation wine region, where the vineyards are considered to be the freshest, and the coastal area, which is particularly hot especially during the summer months. Located within Permian depression, the “Maures Plain” enjoys a highly favorable microclimate for wine production. AOP Côtes de Provence rosé wines are usually described as fresh and powerful at the same time. Qualitative progress made in recent years by the winemakers of the appellation make wines of great elegance, like the Domaine de Paris rosé wine.
